Artists Statement
I make images to remember who I am.
My art is an exploration of the subtle senses, the senses of the unseen and the unheard. I create a field of repeated forms using metaphors of geometric and contoured shapes that float or loom in a "metaphysical" space. These shapes come from an unconscious, altered state within me. The mystery of life, death, polarity, and the joy of the spirit are themes that dominate my imagery.
When I approach the substrate, I liken it to original creation. It is, for me, an act of faith and ritual. Upon layering and rebuilding with materials, be it wax, acrylic, or mixed media, an uneasy dialogue ensues. Somehow, with time and watching, the conflict transcends to a peaceful resolution.
